My swell pal Tonya and I joined forces to coach each other through our wish lists for year 33, a bite-sized version of the DoItDidIt List. Yet, I've found that circumstances beyond your own planning can develop to accommodate certain items on this list--if you just give it a little more time. So constraining to a certain year is a grand goal, but I say let God play the universe in your favor, too. You goals. His time. ;)
So here we go, in no particular order:
Raise and give away $50,000 to fight children's brain cancer. (JANUARY 22, 2010)- Sip tea at the Ritz.
Visit Simon Pierce glass shop. (MAY 2009)- Perfect homemade phad thai.
Try a Big Mac. (FEBRUARY 2009)Plant a lot of peonies at Dad’s. (FALL 2010)- Videotape Dad’s stories.
- Take a poetry class.
- Tour Graceland.
- Fly first class.
Have a child. (SEPTEMBER 1, 2012)- Inhale the lavender fields of Provence.
Sit front row center at a big, live concert. Maybe Pink Martini? (Alabama Shakes, Barenaked Ladies at Starlight 2016/2018)- Visit the Smithsonian.
- Buy cemetery plots.
Eat pizza at Lombardi's. (DECEMBER 2010)- Ride an elephant.
- Birdwatch.
Ride a motorcycle. (JULY 2014)Make a super-healthy green drink and drink it. (JULY 2009)Watch Singin’ in the Rain. Watch An American in Paris. Watch Dr. Zhivago. (2008)Rent an apartment in Paris. (NOVEMBER 2009)- Wear a real flower in my hair on a date with Chad.
- Make a podcast.
Watch a meteor shower. (PERSEIDS/TEARS OF ST. LAWRENCE ON AUGUST 12, 2009)Drive a minivan. (JULY 2008)- Learn to shag dance.
- Host a party and teach other people how to shag dance.
- Subscribe to New York Times Sunday Magazine.
- Perfect making homemade spring rolls + sauce.
- For the love of God, WRITE AND PUBLISH SOMETHING!
- Read James Joyce's Ulysses.
Try a Manhattan. (DECEMBER 2010 OVERLOOKING NYC SKYLINE)Eat crepes under the Eiffel Tower (APRIL 2005)- Find a mentor who would like to be my mentor. Where do I get a mentor?
- Live in Tuscany or Provence for a year.
Continue living consciously, generously and without apology for who I am. (WIP but really good at it 2016-2018)- Make a French baguette in the U.S. that actually tastes as good as they make in France.
- Sail the Queen E2.
- Plant and tend a garden to feed us and to share with others.
Breakfast at Tiffany's. (AUGUST 2004)- Take a course with Gotham Writer's Workshop.
- Sign up for Mondo Beyondo.
- Publish a book of acclaimed poetry.
Lick gelato in Rome. (APRIL 2005)- Tour Northern California.
- Dine at French Laundry.
Stay at Judy's apartment in NYC with my husband for what she calls "a naughty weekend." (DECEMBER 2010)- Write and present an op-ed piece a la Ben Stein & Nancy Giles.'
Tour the Vatican. (APRIL 2005)- Parasail.
- Learn Italian.
Donate my hair. (SEPTEMBER 2008 TO LOCKS OF LOVE.)- Take Chad snow skiing for the first time.
Catch a "throwed roll" at Lambert's. (JUNE 2010)Buy a house that won't try to kill me. (AUGUST 2010)- Put a Biltmore-inspired library in said house.
- Put in a large-ish fountain in the backyard.
Drive a minivan. (AUGUST 2008)- Take my 8-year-old niece to see the ocean.
- Take my little sister with Down's to see the ocean.
Do voiceover work. 2013 at VML- Remember to try hard but not so hard that it looks like I'm trying.
- Compose and produce a piece for This American Life.
- Own a Murano glass chandelier.
Get tipsy on sangria in Barcelona. The real Barcelona, not the delusion I call my suburb. (JUNE 2007)- Ride a retro bike on Martha's Vineyard.
Prepare an amazing brunch for special guests. (MARCH 2015)- Watch movies in the backyard in the summer.
Eat a lobster roll in Maine. IN CONNECTICUT 9/13- Read Dante's Inferno.
- Spend a breezy weekend in Newport.
- Go to The Erma Bombeck Writers' Conference.
- Submit to The Erma Bombeck Writers' Contest
- Tour the Greek Isles.
- Visit Giraffe Manor in Kenya.
